Progress: Nov-2001

03-nov-2001
  • Not much has been happening with the car, due to a money cruch. Hopefully things will pickup around January after I graduate. Anway, we did manage to take the engine out of the car and clean it up a bit. Will have to try and check the numbers on it sometime this week. We now have two distinct projects... 1) Get the powertrain working how we want... 2) Do all the body work.

  • Checked numbers at this website. Found out that it is either a 350, 327, or 302 (block casting number 3970010). We should be able to tell by measuring the cylinder volumes. I will update this page when I find out...

  • Took the engine apart to see what we'll have to do with it. After measuring the cylinder bore and stroke, we were able to narrow down the 350/327/302 debate to find out that it was indeed an actual 350 (4-bolt main).
  • We decided we will send the block out to get cleaned and bored a bit more (since the cylinder walls were worn). We are also going to have to get a new cam shaft and polish the crank shaft, and we'll have to put in new pistons and rods after the block comes back.
  • Also contemplating changing the heads. Right now it has 1.72 intake valves, and we're thinking about getting ones with 2.02s.
