15-jul-2001 Bought the Chevelle from a private seller in Stony Plain, Alberta. 20-jul-2001 My Dad is licensed heavy duty mechanic and he is licensed to do vehicle inspections on large trucks and equipment. Although he can't official inspect my car for the registration (it's not heavy duty), he can look over it and roughly know what we'd have to fix in order to get it so that it would pass. We took it into his shop and crawled around to find out that at the bare minimum, it would need the following to pass: New U-joints. Although they weren't completely worn, he wouldn't pass them if he was doing the inspection. Side Mirror. The car had a decent side mirror (no cracks or anything), but it was slighly stipped and wouldn't stay upright...it would always face the ground. Working signal/tail lights. We later found that all the electricals worked... I guess they had to be plugged in first. While we were looking at this, we made a first-pass at a 'needed parts list'. Here's what we came up with: Front floor panels (driver and passenger) Front floor kickers (driver and (sort of) passenger) 2 rear lower 1/4-panels (rear lower 1/4 of the 1/4-panels) 4/5 speed manual transmission Tilt steering column (non column shift) Rear hood hinges Weather stripping Windshield wiper motor Battery box New coil springs (rear and front) and shocks We also chose our first major undertaking...converting the front brakes from manual drums to power disks.
