11-mar-2008
What: High Prairie is holding its annual tournament at the end of this month (March 29th and 30th). It would involve a 1 or 2 night stay in a hotel there, but is a good tournament that a bunch of SABC players have routinely attended over the years.

You can see the detailed information here
18-sep-2007

2006-2007 Season
10-apr-2007
What: The EDBA is hosting is annual tournament on May 12th and 13th. It is usually a great tournament with lots of good competition. You're encouraged to sign up and represent the St. Albert club...it's always great to see St. Albert winners!

You can find detailed information (including entry form) on the EDBA's website here.
03-mar-2007
What: We still have some t-shirts left over from the Fall Tournament. If you would like to purchase one, we are selling them for $10 each. Please talk to one of the executive if you are interested.
19-dec-2006
What: We've added some extra dates at Concordia over the Christmas break. A drop-in fee of $5 will be charged. Check the schedule for complete details.
02-nov-2006
What: For those that don't know, we have started to play the new 21 point rally system at SABC. The EDBA has prepared a document on this system as it will be used at all EDBA sanctioned tournaments and meets.
31-oct-2006
What: The EDBA is offering a coaching program for those who are intersted. Actually, Badminton Alberta is holding their level 1 coaching training this year, and the EDBA will subsidize the cost of the training if you complete the "practical" portion of the training in an EDBA approved program. Details can be found here, or you can talk to me (Matt) for more details.

Please let me know if you are interested by 31-oct-2006. You can email me at mbudd@dipolesolutions.com or phone at 453-6844.
03-oct-2006
What: We will be requiring all players to be registered by Tuesday October 3rd. Registration forms are available for you online to fill out and bring. There will also be hard copies provided on this day.

If you do not register, then after this date, you will be required to pay full membership or the appropriate drop in fee to play. Note this does not mean you have to register by the 3rd to register at all...it just that after the 3rd, if you come to play and are not a member, you either have to join at that point or pay the dropin fee.

14-sep-2006
What: The new season is upon us. We have 70 dates available for this year and we start on Sept. 19th. You can see the schedule for complete details.

There are a few new things that you should know about:
  • We were not able to secure Sturgeon this year on Sundays. We might have it sporadically during the year (possibly once a month), so we will simply post it as additions to the schedule.
  • Saturday play this year is being marked as Tentative. That means we need to have at least 8 people committed to playing before we can open the gym. If you want to play on Saturdays, then it is your job to make sure that at least 8 people are coming out and then let the executive know and we will open up. We are doing this because that time slot was underutilized last year, and unless we hear otherwise from you guys, this is a good way to balance demand with effort.

2005-2006 Season
28-jun-2006
What: The times for the summer program have changed slightly. We now run from 2PM-4PM on Sundays and 6PM-8PM on Tuesdays.

The cost will be $30 for both July and August ($50 for families). The one restriction is that there will be no free parking the weeks of Klondike days (July 20th-29th). Parking this week will cost $5.
23-apr-2006

The tournament is open to only club members and there is no charge for entry. No preregistration is required, simply show up on the date of the event you want to play and sign up. If you need a partner, we will also be matching players the day of the event. There may be some carryover from one day to the next for some events, but hopefully we can get it all done within each day.

We will be having regularly scheduled badminton (i.e. the regular deal) on Friday with 3 of the 7 courts (4 will be reserved for Singles). Saturday and Sunday will also have some regular badminton, but it depends on how many people want to play doubles (most likely we will be using most of the courts).

If there is enough people that want the training (approx. 5-8), they will book it. I need to know by Jan. 31st.

Level 1 coaching will be a 2-day session at a cost of around $100. The EDBA will pay your Level 1 coaching fee in return for your commitment to coach EDBA junior programs or becoming the EDBA Director of Coaching.
19-dec-2005
What: Naeem is opening Concordia for play over the Christmas holidays (6 dates). The cost is $5 each time, even if you are a member of SABC. The dates are reflected on December's schedule (and January's).

For January 2nd and 5th, there will be only 4 courts available for open play (the regular 7 courts will be there for the other dates)
13-dec-2005
What: Apparently last Saturday (10-dec-2005) for badminton, no security came up to open the gym and although there was an executive present, we were unable to contact them to get them open up the building. We are sorry for the incovenience this caused anyone, and we will try our best to ensure that someone is there to open on days that we are scheduled to play for the remainder of the season. Thanks for your understanding.
18-nov-2005
What: We've changed the venue for the pizza party to New York Steak and Pizza. It is on the north end of St. Albert on St. Albert Trail, just north of 7/11 (on the west side of the road).

Same time...10PM after badminton, just different location.
01-nov-2005
What: We need volunteers to work this year's EDBA casino on behalf of the St. Albert Badminton Club. Our clubs participation is mandatory to maintain our membership in EDBA.

The casino will take place March 8th and 9th (a Wednesday and Thursday) and we need to provide a list of 5 potential volunteers. Shifts are unknown at this time but there will most likely be a 10:30AM-7PM shift, a 6PM-2:30AM shift, and a 9:30PM-3:30AM shift. Please let me (Matt) or any of the other executive know if you are interested in volunteering. Thanks!
28-sep-2005
What: October 4th (a Tuesday) is the last day that you have to play without paying for your membership. After this date, to play you must either purchase your membership or pay the drop in fee for that night. Please make any cheques payable to "St. Albert Recreation Badminton Club". Thanks for your cooperation in getting your membership in on time.
19-sep-2005
What: As we did last year, you will be required to fill out a registration form when submitting your membership fees. We will have copies available for your fill out, but if you want to, you can download the form here and fill it out before registering.
13-sep-2005
What: The new season is upon us, and we have some great news. We have secured the Sturgeon Composite High School in Namao to play at on Sundays. This provides us with an additional 35 dates for a total of 104 dates scheduled. The only extra deal is that we have to remove outside footwear immediately upon entering the building (before entering the gym). Fees have increased slightly due to the additional gym cost, and more information can be found here.

Our first date is September 18th, and you can see the tentative schedule here. We will keep this website up to date with any changes to the schedule, so check back often!

What: One of our long time members, Frank Carnahan, recently passed away. He played quite a bit at our club until a few years ago. Our thoughts and condolenses go out to his friends and family.

CARNAHAN, Francis (Frank) Frederick Frank Carnahan passed away peacefully on June 10th, 2005 at home with his loving wife Jay at his side. Frank lived a rich and full life with family, friends and colleagues. Frank loved sports, travel, teaching, and the company of good friends and family. Throughout his travels which included moving his family to live in England, Scotland, and Germany, Frank developed many life long friendships. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 47 years, Jay; daughter Heather of Edmonton; sons Brian (Chris) of Calgary along with their children Eric and Vince; and Michael (Mary-Ellen) of Grand Cayman and granddaughter Abbie Leigh; sisters Arlene of Kenora, Ont., Valerie (Richard) of Anglemont, BC, and Beryl (Dick) of St. Albert; sister-in-law Beverly of Ft. Sask.; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Albert United Church, 20 Green Grove Drive, St. Albert at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 17th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Fund or the St. Albert United Church. Published in the Edmonton Journal on 6/15/2005.
01-mar-2005
What: Congratulations to our St. Albert Badminton Club Interclub team. Captained by Adam Luv, Stephen Atkins, Matt Budd, Kui Chang, Jonathan Chang, Trudy Lohr, Sherri Snell, Miriam Stanisavljevic, and Faye Stewart captured the Interclub trophy by just 2 games over the IBC club. Great job guys and we'll try to defend it again next year!
24-feb-2005
What: A bunch of players from SABC are looking at going to a tournament in High Prairie this year. I runs on April 23rd-24th, and would involve a 1 or 2 night stay in a hotel there. The cost would be about $50 for the tournment itself which includes play, a t-shirt, and dinner on Saturday. The cost of the hotel and car would be extra. Anyone interested in going should let me (Matt Budd) know by mid-March. The more people that can go the cheaper it will be (share transporation and hotel costs).
07-jan-2005
What: Because of all the cancellations in January, we were able to book an Elementary School gymnasium for some Saturdays in January. We are playing in Muriel Martin school which is in Deer Ridge. Check out the schedule for more details.
06-jan-2005
What: I've finally update the website with the results of our fall tournment this year. Click here to see how everyone did!
06-jan-2005
What: Just a note from the EDBA: There will no longer be EDBA Open Play time at Concordia on Sundays. They are working on a possible replacement, but more information may come about that at a later time. However for the time being, there will be no more EDBA badminton on Sundays at Concordia.

31-mar-2004
What: I added a member list to the site. Please check it over and see if your info is correct.

I've also removed the Mailing List feature, as I probably won't have time to finish it for a while.
12-mar-2004
What: Due to the amount of people coming out on Tuesday nights, the executive has decided to limit Tuesdays to members only. This means that there will be no drop-ins or guests allowed on that day (although Friday and Saturday is still fine).
08-dec-2003
What: We've added some extra dates at Concordia over the Christmas break. A drop-in fee of $4 will be charged. Check the schedule for complete details.
24-oct-2003
What: The schools have hardened their policies on playing times.

We must be out of the schools when our time ends. Because of this, our club has decided to end play 15 minutes earlier (at 9:45 on Tuesday and Friday, and 3:45 on Saturday), and then use the remaining 15 minutes to put away the equipment and vacate the building. You should stop playing even earlier if you're planning to take a shower. This will take effect immediately, starting with 28-oct-2003.

If we aren't out of the buildings by 10PM and 4PM respectively, we will void our rental agreement and lose the gyms. A security company has been hired by the schools to turn on the alarms at these times.
17-oct-2003
What: We're starting up this years Junior League for those age 12-17. It takes place at Sturgeon Composite High School on Sundays from 1PM - 3PM, and will start on 02-nov-2003. Contact Naeem for more information.

10-sep-2003
What: The new season is upon us. We have a big change this year with scheduling...we are now playing on Saturdays (from 1 - 4PM) instead of Sundays at St. Albert High.

The first week of the schedule is kinda screwed up, but our first day is Monday the 15th, then the following week we begin play on the regular Tuesdays. Check the tentative schedule for complete information.
