2003-2004 Season Lookback
|
Overview
Another great year in the books for the badminton club this year.
We had a ton of people coming out to play this year (sometimes we
even had too many ;) ), and I think we all enjoyed the competition
and the good times had on and off the courts. We have a few changes
for next year, with the biggest change being a brand new executive
(more about that below).
Once again we have to thank Joe and his family for hosting this year's
BBQ at their house, and also thank Luke/Naeem for organizing
the Christmas party. It takes a lot of time and effort to put that
stuff together, and we'd all like to let everyone that was involved
know how much it is appreciated.
Also, as of right now, there are no plans for Summer play. If that
does change, it will be announced on the website.
Club Tournament Results
Congratulations to the winners and everyone that came out to play.
We didn't get that large of turnout this year (we were only able
to get Men's Singles and Men's Doubles), but hopefully next year
will be better.

About the Executive
Next year we are going to have a brand new executive, with only
one person returning from last year. It's a huge undertaking,
especially since we're almost all going to be freshman, but it's nice
we're starting with such a solid foundation and a bunch of
members that we can look to for help.
Our new executive will be:
| |
| President |
Steve Atkins |
| Vice President |
Weng Chee |
| Secretary |
Faye Stewart |
| Treasurer |
Ron Pomeroy |
| Tournament Director/Promotions |
Adam Luv |
| Communications/Web-guy |
Matt Budd |
|
One of our main goals for next year will be addressing certain issues that have
come to the forefront over the past few years. These include:
- Better management of drop-ins
- System for high court volumes (the nights when all 65 members show up)
- More social nights/get-togethers
- Better access to the gyms on Saturday afternoons
- Organized tournaments and possible interclub/travel
We'll definitely want to hear how our members feel about these issues, so please
take some time to think about these issues, and possibly others that you want
your executive to discuss. We hope to improve the communication flow between
the exec and the members, so that we all can work to improve the club.
Message From the Web-guy
One of the big emphasises in the coming year is on improved communication. Our
initial idea is for some sort of newsletter that we'll do every couple of months.
It will also be online, and we are thinking about possibly emailing it out as well.
We will also consider placing our executive meeting minutes on the website, so
those two features will probably be it for new stuff next year (the Mailing List
will take too long, and will probably be replaced by the Members List).
I just thought I'd take this opportunity to sort of explain the Members List.
Initially it was asked of me to put our members' phone numbers on the website
so we have a central place of contact for members (and the executive) to contact
other members. After it was initially put online, there were immediate concerns
that doing so violated the Alberta Privacy Act, so we took it offline. A Members
List is still a good idea, but we have to modify it a bit.
What we plan to do, is have two levels of access. All of the members will get a
password, and all of the executive will get a separate password. When you go to
register next year, you will have to decide (on a registration form) whether you
want to provide your information to the other members. If not, then your contact
info will be visible through the website, only to the executive.
If so, then it will be on the website, only for members of our
club (not the general public). Again, this is sort of what we were envisioning,
but it could change when we meet and decide as the executive.
I'd like to thank everyone for the compliments on the site and for the feedback
I've received on it (both positive and negative). Please keep it flowing, and you
can always contact me at webmaster@stalbertbadmintonclub.com.
